From Crisis to Commons: Building a Global Commonwealth of Local Economies
Video
To the Symbiotic Community:
As I prepare for the release of Birthing the Symbiotic Age, I’ve been reshaping this Substack into a home with fresh resources to support your community journey. In the coming weeks, you’ll find new FAQs, mini-essays, and excerpts from the book.
To give you a preview, here’s a video sharing my 10-year plan for building a Global Commonwealth of 50,000 Regional Economies—showing how local communities can organize around food, economy, neighborhoods, faith, service and trust, then link into networks that scale organically across regions and nations.
Why does it matter? Because this isn’t theory.
Over the past forty years, I’ve seen local citizens in drug- and gang-infested neighborhoods reduce crime and create peace. I’ve seen networks that grow local living economies and food systems. I’ve witnessed neighbor networks transform entire regions. I have seen the power of religion/faith in serving those on the margins. And I’ve seen policy shift when these principles take root.
The video demonstrates how the same approach can be applied globally, beginning in each community, from vision to action, and providing a practical path beyond polarization toward resilience and connection.
Strategy and Approach:
The Ancient Blueprint: Building a Culture of Connection in a Broken World
Every day, headlines remind us that our systems are breaking down — not just globally but here in America, where polarization and even political violence have become part of daily life. Many feel caught between dueling extremes, with little sense of where to turn.
